I love film.
The old Masters shot with film and developed it much the same way that it’s still done today – at least by hand. I think about this past connection and I like it. It’s cool how a standard 5-step process can be so personal. I reject the idea that film is limited. Film can be full of texture and loaded with grain or velvety smooth with rich blacks, ethereal whites; over-saturated or visibly natural. The possibilities are infinite.
I lost a lot of images that I regretted losing during my learning process but I’m grateful that I learned photography in the traditional system. Today I use this knowledge to manipulate my Lomography images and my equipment - toy cameras. Had I not learned traditionally I know that I would not be a lomographer today. I would not have had the patience for it.
