It seems that Holga cameras are either on sale or going on clearance and this has made me wonder if they were being discontinued in the US. I asked Google and I couldn’t find a definitive answer. Freestyle had been putting out different series of them (colors) but they seem to have stopped at the HolgaGlo which are now all on clearance.
It’s disquieting as a film shooter to continually wonder when the last order will be the last order. At any rate I’ve decided to cover myself and order a few more 120s - the price is right and Rollei film is also on sale (gasp).
I love to look at the Lomography website but I rarely buy from them unless its film. I needed a few rolls of Lomo purple developed so I sent it in to them. I received an email back that it would take 10 working days to process. I was floored! What takes 10 days to do anything anymore?
I love going on Flea Bay and finding Cokin or Tiffen filters brand new for $10. I hate finding on the Flea Kodak’s discontinued film stock which has taken price gauging to a whole new level. It’s futile to think of what I could do if I had this film or that, but I do. I feel that film photography is truly a fine art because it is becoming so rarefied. The challenges it presents from cost to patience to declining equipment selections are mounting.
Though I don’t truly feel that film photography is in its last days I know that for me I’m always carefully weighing creative options because the reality is that the tools for my particular creativity are disappearing.
