Naturally I go back and forth about what is good, what’s been done, and what can I add. If I get too intense about the question I hit the books by the old masters. I tend to veer away from random peer reviews which can sometimes be helpful, and sometimes not (excessive green shade). So I step back to step up. Everything has been done but it hasn’t been done by me or by you. I think that individuality is important, and it shines through artistically.
I’ve been getting some really interesting images from my Diana F+ and the 110mm lens which has prompted my present mood. The pictures are looking like nothing I’ve shot before. They’re extremely dreamy, soft focused, and uncontrollable. Recently, I shot half a roll that came out like film images – love them. I’ve been trying to recreate this effect with no success. I’ve given up thinking that it’s the light, and I haven’t changed film (Ilford Pan F+). So what is the secret in the secret sauce? I haven’t figured this out yet and at this point I don’t know if I ever will; I do know that this is why I shoot film; mystery.
