Happy New Year Everyone! 2023 is here and I'm ready for it! I shot a lot of film last year; I didn't write as nearly as much as I shot; this year will be different. I'm going to write weekly even if it's only a single sentence.
As you all know film is expensive and I've been shooting slower which means if I come back with 10 frames left on the roll. I won't develop it until all 36 are exposed. This has slowed me down but inflation has been on the rise and I'm looking closer at everything. I've discovered expired film; not that this is new but on eBay it's a thing and I've been snapping it up.
I found 2 boxes of Kodak 220! 220! I never retire cameras I have so many but I've been shooting a lot with my plastic collection; the Holga and the Diana F, they are light and they are fun. My Mamiya C330f have been shelved for a few years. It's heavy and serious and ooze gravitas like my Nikon F. When I bought the 220 film I thought we're gonna do great things together.
This year I want more mystery and more creativity I want wabi-sabi. I've been researching film soup. Yes, research. I know I know this is not an item on the list of the 10 rules. I'm cooking a few personal projects and I'm going for a certain look. I don't like the goopy, runny look. I'm into the color shifts and I've found that certain ingredients react differently with one another and I'm excited to begin.
So what's the hold up? The weather. This is the third year in a row where Detroit has had little to no snow and it's depressingly grey. Not a little grey; extremely grey. I'm writing down all my ideas for when the weather is good as in partly sunny, I'll settle for that right now.
