My Favorite Film Camera of 2023...

2023 is ending and everyone is holiday shopping and preparing their year end lists for this or that. I decided to list my favorite film camera which is hands down the Lomography LCA Wide. It's a camera that time and again has ignited my creativity and chased away my boredom. I never knew what I was going to get from this camera after I clicked the shutter and that was simultaneously thrilling and new.

These heightened emotions carried over throughout the development process. It is so easy to mess up film development. The most stressful part for me is rolling the film in the black bag onto the reel. It's all done by touch and just knowing, and telling yourself don't mess up.

After a long day of shooting I have come home really tired and really curious about the images that I shot with this camera so I would develop and scan them the same day. I can't say the same about my other cameras.

When I bought this camera I thought you really don't need another camera. What I really wanted to shoot were some splitzer images, but at that time I couldn't find one made for the LCA. Then I read about the Lomo LCA Wide that created half frame with images with and without a mask. I pressed purchase now after reading this article and pouring over unique half frame images on Flickr.

I've had this tiny point and shoot for about a year now and I realized that I used it just once as a single frame camera. Here is my year in review from a splurge that continuously makes me happy. Click to view larger; galleries and slide shows are cropped.

I was telling myself not to put another camera on my Christmas list this year, but I love these photos so much that I might have to get one! I love the split and double exposures, they are so great.

Thanks Ashley! The negatives are tricky because they blend/flow. I scan first and then pick where to cut. If you send your film off to a lab the computer will decide for you. I absolutely adore this little camera. It's expensive but to me so worth it. Photographers are definitely gadget junkies. ;O)
